Our Story

A Legacy of Growth

From a vision in 1986 to a thriving seminary and the home of Masjid Zakariya, the journey of Darul-Uloom Al-Madania has been one of faith, perseverance, and unwavering service to the Ummah.

1986

A Vision Takes Shape

Darul-Uloom began its journey in Canada while searching for a permanent location in the United States.

1989–1990

Seeds of Perseverance

Sales were attempted in Dunkirk and Buffalo (Dodge St.), but were unfortunately rejected by the sellers.

1991

First Milestone

Property was purchased on North Davis Rd. in East Aurora, NY, housing our first group of 18 students.

1993

A Permanent Home

Alhamdulillah, on October 30 we purchased 182 Sobieski St. in Buffalo — a cathedral, school, and rectory converted into our first Masjid and boarding school.

1994–1996

Expansion & Growth

The girls’ school was established in 1994 across from the Masjid. By 1996, the boys’ boarding school moved to a larger facility on Sycamore Ave.

2001

Trial by Fire

On October 22, 2001, a devastating fire broke out at the Masjid, causing the roof to collapse and rendering the building unsafe for use.

2002

Madinatul Uloom

A new flagship campus — Madinatul Uloom, featuring 16 buildings — was acquired, becoming the home of the boys’ boarding school.
